Many of us have been in the position of having to find a nursing home care facility for our loved ones. These long-term care facilities are required by law to follow the rules and regulations covered by the Georgia Department of Community Health on record at the Georgia Secretary of State's office. These regulations, starting with Chapter 111-8-1, covers Adult Daycare Centers, Assisted Living Communities, Long-Term Care Facilities, Nursing Homes, Personal Care Homes, and Private Home Care Providers. You will find the Long-Term Care Facilities: Residents' Bill of Rights in Chapter 111-8-50. Despite the regulations and oversight, many times these care facilities let us and our loved ones down, resulting in abuse, injuries or neglect. If you need the assistance of a Roswell nursing home abuse or neglect lawyer, give us a call.

When you make the decision to leave your loved one in a nursing care facility, your loss of observation and control on a day-to-day basis can be stressful. Sometimes even more stressful than continuing to care for them on your own. You are counting on someone else to tend to their specific needs of assistance, taking medications, dietary restrictions, exercise and safety. You are also relying on the new caregivers to ensure they are being taken care of emotionally, seeing friendly faces, engaging in activities and being treated with kindness and respect. You are counting on the facility being appropriately staffed and trained. Don't be afraid to ask questions specific to staffing and to your loved one's specific needs. For instance, ask each attendant to see your loved-one's medicine schedule. Ask if they know of any allergies your loved one has. Be sure they know if they are supposed to assist your loved one with bathing and other hygiene, and how often. And finally, ask for a schedule showing your loved-one's daily activities and interactions with others.
When you visit the facility, be on the lookout for these things:
We can Help. We've specialized in personal injury cases for nearly 20 years and have handled several nursing home abuse and neglect cases. Most of the cases we have handled were injury cases involving broken bones when clients were left unattended, wheel chair wheels were not locked, or attendants were not adequately trained on how to transport a client. We have also handled cases where medications were not refilled in a timely manner, and the client's health suffered as a result. We have handled Alzheimer cases when unsupervised residents wandered off and were injured, and diabetes-related wounds that were not noticed nor cared for.
We offer free case evaluations, so call us today.
