Wrongful death can be caused by a variety of things. We handle our cases differently, depending on the cause and circumstances in which the death occurred. If a death occurred at work, the deceased's beneficiaries might be entitled to compensation from workers' compensation insurance. If the wrongful death happened in a hospital or as a result of negligence from a doctor or other medical professional, the case will be handled as a medical malpractice case. Most other cases are handled under the umbrella of personal injury and wrongful death. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the wrongful death, if a death occurred as a result of someone else's negligence, Casey W. Stevens Law: Alpharetta Personal Injury and Car Accident Lawyers has many years of experience identifying and securing all compensation that is due to the beneficiaries of the deceased.

Determining Pecuniary Loss in Wrongful Death
Although the value of a human life cannot be measured in dollars, there are many different factors involved in calculating the compensation you are due. To gain recovery of the "full value" of the life of your parent, child, or spouse, the law takes the following things into consideration:
- loss of companionship
- loss of services
- loss of parental income and future income
Wrongful death benefits are awarded to the beneficiary of the decedent. The immediate beneficiary would be the spouse of the deceased, and if there is no spouse, the children are next. If there are no children, the parents are entitled to benefits, and so on down the chain of relations. Awards of compensation are paid out to surviving family members in accordance with Georgia Code OCGA 51-4-2.
